A stunning musical movie: Climax
Climax by Gaspar noé is an extremely impressive thriller movie. The scenario is only five pages long and filming process was completed in 15 days.
Only coreography in the film is the dance scene at the beginning. Other dance scenes are completely extemporisation.Camera angles are so dynamic and in some parts camera goes upside down, this makes audience dizzy.Athmosphere is generally red , which symbolizes passion and love. Acting is powerful and realistic.Gaspar Noé represents “the new french extremity”.His films are hypnotizing.Film starts with Eric Satie’s gymnopédie no.1 and in the first scene there is a bloody woman crowling in snow.Pain and despair themes influence the film.
At the beginning, we see “we proudly present a french movie” written on screen. Also we see writings like “existence is a temporary illusion”,”death is an extraordinary experience” during the movie. In a dance party, people constantly drink “sangria” and due to somebody adding LSD into the drinks, people slowly lose their minds, and this drug reveals their deepest desires.A child of one of the characters tries to drink the drug, her mother imprisons him to a room in order to protect her son.But little child goes crazy,he screams desperately. In my opinion, this scene tells audience a metaphor which is called “comfort zone”.We sometimes don’t want to leave our safe places but there is a world out there to be explored. This kid stuck in the room symbolizes us.He is in pain, afraid of insects but can’t get out because the door is locked. He need to unlock it in a possible way and rescue himself. We must rescue our souls from that comfort zone and feel free.
